Client Tailored Instructions

Marine surveying is an extremely diverse field.  Our unique and professional service allows us to tailor any instruction to the individual requirements of our customers.

Some examples of past client tailored instructions are detailed below.

New Build Motor Yacht Commisioning

Instructed by the Finnish agent of a major British motorboat manufacturer at the beginning of 2009, we took delivery of a new 36’ vessel following dispatch from the factory.  We then carried out our pre-delivery procedure, raised a list of defects to the broker and made arrangements with the factory and local specialists to effect the necessary rectification work.  The vessel was cleaned and prepared prior to a visit from the new owner for sea trials.

This service saved time and money for the broker as the rectification work, which included the installation of a barbeque (which had not been completed despite specification in the build forms) could take place in the UK where the parts and skilled labour were readily available.

Once all of the work was completed, we arranged the transportation and shipping of the vessel to Finland through our contacts in the industry.

Our efforts were greatly apreciated by the owner, agent and manufacturer alike and we have been instructed by the agent to commision their next vessel to dispatch from the factory.

Damage Inspection - Mooring Dragged by Yacht

In early January 2007, we received an instruction to investigate damage to a yacht after dragging its mooring at Hayling Island during a storm in the night.

On investigation (and a little paddling) we established that the concrete mooring ballast and length of the mooring line was insufficient to hold bottom in the extremely high tide, which occurred due to a combination of low atmospheric pressure and strong Northerly gales at high tide.

Having established the cause and extent of the damage, we organised a work schedule and arranged inspections to ensure the repairs were completed to a satisfactory standard. The yacht was soon back in the water with a happy owner once more.

Vessel Stripping in France

In July 2004 we attended ‘Slipway CMN (Construction Mechanique de Normandie) dock’ in Cherbourg, France on just one day’s notice from a renowned International shipping agent to oversee the removal of a new motor yacht from water onto road transport bound for the South of France.

This process involved the establishment, rigging and direction of the supplied crane.  With the vessel safety held in the slings, we removed to propellers and rudders and secured them onboard before the yacht was lowered into the waiting road transporter.  Once settle on pre-arranged support blocks a second crane was brought in to remove the arch, radar and mast assembly, which were wrapped in protective felt padding and secured onboard.  Our final task was to adequately secure the yacht to the road transporter in preparation for the journey to the South of France.

Our thorough planning and skillful execution of this operation meant that the vessel did not need to travel by sea, which saved engine hours and reduced costs for our clients.

Ship to Ship Transfer in Singapore

In November 2004 our representative attended at Jurong Docks in Singapore to oversee the ship-to-ship transfer of a new large motor yacht, loaded previously in the Port of Southampton, UK bound for Sydney, Australia.  This particular instruction came at three days notice and required fast and efficient planning.  The process involved our attendance on behalf of an International shipping agent to oversee the lifting and re-securing of the vessel between two bulk carriers via a floating crane.

Multiple Yacht Loadings in Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Once again, at very short notice we attended on behalf of an International shipping agent, this time in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.  Armed with a vague instruction of undertaking, we arrived with anticipation to find that our task was to load close to fifty motor and sailing yachts on board a bulk carrier bound for the Mediterranean.

Working as part of a small team, our role was to over see the careful construction and placement of the nominated shipping cradles and to assist in the rigging and direction of the ship’s own deck cranes.  Four extremely long days led to the completion of a satisfactory bulk yacht trans shipment.

Such a success was this task that we were invited back to Tortola just two weeks after for a duplicate instruction.
