Commercial Craft Surveys

Commercial craft surveys cover the aspects of larger vessels. Following a similar process of our Small Craft Surveys commercial craft surveys cover a wide range of areas.  Our commercial craft surveys can be tailored to meet your requirements and can be divided into the following categories:

Full Condition Survey
A pre-purchase option for larger commercial vessels covering every possible aspect of the vessel from structure and fittings, to mechanical installations, rigging and systems.  We will also produce a ‘Certificate of Valuation’ at no extra charge if required.

Structural Survey
Our structural survey covers vessel structure, hull fittings, masts and rigging, mechanical installations and stern gear and is usually accepted as a basis for insurance for smaller commercial vessels.

Limited Outer Bottom Survey
Covering the under water area, fixtures and fittings only (to include the stern gear). As with all the above commercial surveys this will require a slipping or dry docking process.

Sea Trial
Our sea trialing procedure varies between small and large commercial vessels and is easily tailored to evaluate all mechanical and engineering installations.  We offer this service both seperately and in addition to our other services.

Damage Survey
An independent survey to assess any damage to commercial craft.  The identification of any damage can assist in determining the next course of action with regards to cause, insurance and repair. This also assists with the formation of work specifications and procedures.

Tonnage Measurement
As Corporate Supporting Members of the Certifying Authority, authorised by the International Institute of Marine Surveying, working alongside the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, we offer a tonnage measurement service in accordance with the Merchant Shipping (Tonnage) Regulations 1997.  We employ a recognised measurement system and submit our recorded particulars to the Certifying Authority who produce the vessel’s tonnage certificate and plate for registration purposes.

Commercial Compliance
We are authorised by the International Institute of Marine Surveying, Certifying Authority, to undertake examinations in connection with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency Code of Practice for Small Commercial Vessels.

Ultrasonic Measurement
We own and operate ultrasonic thickness and leak detection equipment and fulfil a broad range of instructions from new build and in-service vessel plating and framing inspections to ultrasonic leak detection of compromised compartments to identify fatigue cracks and excessive corrosion.  Our operators are experienced and knowledgeable of factors such as surface roughness and its effect on readings to achieve accurate and consistent results.

Mechanical Installations
Specifically aimed at the mechanical installations and systems of larger commercial vessels.  Normally undertaken with the vessel in the water with adequate crew to demonstrate all available systems.  We will raise a report detailing our professional opinion of all tested and available systems on board and recommendations for improvements with regard to defects, ease of operation and safety.

On / Off Hire Survey
A common survey for vessels before and after charter periods.  The on / off hire survey is based upon a general condition survey upon which the actual condition of a vessel before and after a specific working period is ascertained within a clear and comprehensive independent report.  This process will involve the docking or slipping of the vessel in question to ascertain the condition of the vessel externally below the waterline.

Draft Survey
We offer draft survey services to determine ship displacement on arrival and departure from port and to quantify the dry and liquid cargos loaded and discharged.

Bunker Survey
Determination of quantities of wet and liquid cargos taken on or discharged, typically oil, chemical and petroleum products.  This is often conducted on arrival and departure, before and after loading or discharge.

Classification Survey
Often required when a vessel is brought back into class or changes class dependant on the intended use.  Our experience in devising work specifications and procedures may particularly assist in effecting the necessary work.  Due to the variation of work involved please contact our office for further information.
