The foundation of marine surveying practice. This office prides itself with the level of attention given to customers and the quality of our comprehensive survey reports with easy to understand recommendation categories. We are not restricted to just the UK South Coast and regularly travel globally to satisfy customers’ needs.
Our small craft surveys can be tailored to meet your requirements and budget by negotiation and can be divided into the following categories:
Full Condition Survey
Perhaps the most advisable option when buying a new boat is to commission a full condition survey which usually forms the basis of a Pre-Purchase survey. The full condition survey covers every possible aspect of the vessel from structure and fittings, to mechanical installations, rigging and systems. We will also produce a ‘Certificate of Valuation’ at no extra charge if required.
Insurance Survey
Often the most suitable type of survey as we have tailored this survey to satisfy the requirements of insurers whilst reducing costs for our customers in comparison to our full condition survey. The insurance survey covers the vessel’s structural and mechanical installations, rigging, gas and safety equipment.
Structural Survey
Our structural survey is an ideal option for those that are satisfied with their potential purchase and wish to have the structure, hull fittings, masts and rigging, mechanical installations and stern gear inspected.
Limited Outer Bottom Survey
The most basic of small craft surveys covering the under water area, fixtures and fittings only (to include the stern gear).
Sea Trial
Our sea trial service includes testing the engine(s) throughout their rev range, testing of navigation equipment, trim tabs, windlass, engine-heated calorifier and other operational equipment and inspection of engine and gearbox lubricants, coolant and hose integrity. Monitoring of engine and engine compartment temperate and measurement of the maximum shaft revolution speed (where access and installation permit), which is used to calculate the actual revs achieved by the engine. We offer this service both seperately and in conjunction with our other surveys for a small fee.
Damage Survey
If your vessel has been unfortunate enough to have suffered from any damage, we can attend to ascertain the cause and extent of the damage and produce an independent report.
Mechanical Installations
Covering all the systems (and their testing where applicable) within your vessel. This includes: engine(s), stern gear, gas systems, electrical systems, bilge systems and water/sewage systems.
Recreational Craft Directive Consultancy
Our surveyors possess a wealth of knowledge regarding the RCD and assist importers and home builders in achieving conformity with the directive so that vessels may be put into service or placed on the market within the EU.
Tonnage Measurement
As Corporate Supporting Members of the Certifying Authority, authorised by the International Institute of Marine Surveying, working alongside the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, we offer a tonnage measurement service in accordance with the Merchant Shipping (Tonnage) Regulations 1997. We employ a recognised measurement system and submit our recorded particulars to the Certifying Authority who produce the vessel’s tonnage certificate and plate for registration purposes.
Getting The Most From Your Survey
There are several ways for you to assist us in providing the best possible service. Prior to survey, ensure a set of keys for cabins, lockers and stowages are left onboard or made available to us, along with any past repair and maintenance invoices and engine servicing records if possible. If applicable, please ensure sails are made available for inspection. Arrangements should be made to inspect the outer bottom with the vessel out of the water and afloat for engine testing and watertightness checks if required.
Enquiry Process
Please call our office on 02380 207938 to discuss your requirements and receive a quotation. Should this be satisfactory we will forward (by email or post) a ‘Letter of Instruction’, which is our contract of survey giving us permission to undertake the survey on your behalf. On recieving the completed letter of instruction we will undertake the survey of your choice as soon as possible. Payment is requested after completion of the survey, prior to release of your final report. We will issue a draft report first and welcome your input prior to finalising the report.
